If the strap breaks, becomes disengaged or towing fixtures tear
loose, the strap will snap and whip wildly. Use the vehicle’s
recovery points. Only use shackles to attach your pull strap to a
vehicle. Do not use portable hardware such as hooks or chain to
attach pull strap to vehicles. Never join two pull strap together
using shackles. Protect pull strap from sharp edges, abrasions and
heat. Wash in warm water after use. Replace immediately if cut,
worn or damaged.

There are two basic strap characteristics.
A "static" strap with minimal stretch is used as an anchor, perhaps
wrapped around a tree or a rock or used as a winch extension.
A "kinetic" strap that stretches slightly to help reduce shock
during vehicle recovery, which also aids in recovery as the strap rebounds. This type of
strap should not be used as a winch extension.
